What our members say about T&N

  • “Tenants & Neighbors' fight is really the fight for New York- the fight to preserve the culture of our city. Without us, the city would be a place just for the very wealthy.”

  • “When I was growing up, we had a sense of community, that everyone should be responsible for everyone else, that we’re all in it together, that there's strength in numbers. We had the attitude- I’ve got your back and I know you’ll have mine. Tenants & Neighbors still has that value. Tenants & Neighbors has our back.”

  • “Tenants & Neighbors is a dedicated, ballsy, honorable, democratic organization."

  • When I think of Tenants & Neighbors, I think of two things: empowerment and back up. Tenants & Neighbors empowers tenants and backs us up when there are specific issues we want to work on.”

Ways to Get Involved

  • Join Tenants & Neighbors- One of the most important ways you can help preserve New York's affordable housing and strengthen tenants' rights is by becoming a dues-paying member of the New York State Tenants & Neighbors Coalition. See information to the left.

  • Come to an orientation meeting- We have quarterly orientation meetings for new and prospective members. For more information, contact Katie Goldstein at 212-608-4320 ext. 400.

  • Join a Tenant Leadership Committee- At any time, whether or not you have attended an orientation meeting, you can join one of our Leadership Committee. We currently have leadership committees for project-based Section 8 tenants, current and former Mitchell-Lama tenants, rent stabilized tenants, and rent controlled tenants. The committees typically meet at least on a monthly basis, in the evenings, and they help us plan and carry out our campaigns. They also assist with strategic planning, fundraising, base building, and other organizational initiatives. We provide training and leadership development to the committee members, and serving on a Leadership Committee is considered preparation for standing for election for the Board of Directors. If you are interested in joining a Leadership Committee, contact Katie Goldstein at 212-608-4320 ext. 400.
